Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Cawangan Selangor, Puncak Alam Campus, has organised a 2-Day Virtual Workshop on Basic Course on NMR Spectroscopy. The objective of the course was to teach the basic aspects of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, which is an important analytical tool in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry for the determination of the content and purity of a sample as well as its molecular structure. The topics covered in this virtual workshop included one-dimensional NMR, Chemical shifts, J-coupling, Interpretation of 1D NMR spectrum, Basics of 2D NMR, Different 2D NMR experiments and their application/interpretation, Application of 2D NMR for assignment of molecules. The scope of this training also included basic and more advanced data processing for analysis/publication purposes using Topspin2/Topspin3, MestReNova software. This course was helpful for individuals having a good background of general chemistry knowledge and taught at the beginner level. It was intended to serve pharmacists, chemists and biochemists working in the research institutes as well as in R&D departments, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, the topics covered were of equal benefits to chemists/biochemist working in other disciplines. About twenty-nine participants from local and private universities of Malaysia have attended this workshop.
