It is the mission of UiTM Faculty of Pharmacy to provide facilities that support the evolving needs of the institution’s teaching, research and service mission. Our faculty members possess vast experience in their specialisation and are keen to transfer knowledge in the most innovative ways.
The Faculty was established in August 2001. A three-year Diploma of Pharmacy Programme began earlier, in 1996. The first batch of 29 students for the four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) programme was accepted for the May-November 2002 academic session.
The Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM began Pharmacy, UiTM began to offer Master’s and Doctorate courses by research in 2003. To date, we have active research projects ongoing in the Faculty. We are progressing very well with post graduate students doubling in number each semester. Projects are sponsored by grants from Science Funds, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and internal grants of UiTM.
The Faculty has also established linkages with international universities and pharmaceutical industries to provide consultation and research collaborations. Currently, the Faculty of Pharmacy is located at UiTM Cawangan Selangor, Puncak Alam Campus (for Degree and Postgraduates programmes) and UiTM Penang (for Diploma in Pharmacy programme).
Our faculty comprises five buildings (FF1-FF5) which FF1 accommodate lecturers offices, administration offices. There are 19 teaching (TEC) rooms, 12 PBL rooms, examination halls, 6 students’ activity rooms and six computer laboratories (for teaching and learning) and two computer laboratories (for Bioinformatics Research Group) and one smart classroom located at FF2. In addition, there are 63 laboratories at FF3 building for teaching and multi-disciplinary research. Each department has their own laboratories which are Pharmaceutical Life Sciences: 14 labs, Pharmacology: 11 labs, Pharmaceutical Chemistry: 8 labs, Pharmacy Practice: 16 labs and Pharmaceutics: 14 labs. We also have four main lecture halls located at FF4 for mass lecture purposes.
Additional, by approving the facilities provided in the FF5 building, UiTM’s Top Management appointed the Faculty of Pharmacy to manage and maintain Laboratory Animal Facility and Management (LAFAM). This animal facility is currently used by the researchers of UiTM’s academic staff and other collaborators. The animal facility has its own four storey building with sophisticated equipment to house the laboratory animals. The animals are well maintained to the highest ethical standards.
