As part of analytical chemistry techniques used in quality control and research, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is essential in determining sample purity and content. Therefore, on 17th and 18th May 2022, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia organized a “Hybrid Workshop on Applications of NMR Spectroscopy”. The event was conducted online via the Cisco Webex Meeting platform and through physical sessions at the Computer Lab, Level 5, FF2, Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM. The NMR experts, Prof Dr Atia-Tul-Wahab from ICCBS Karachi University Pakistan, as well as Assoc Prof Dr Syed Adnan Ali Shah and Assoc Prof Dr Sadia Sultan from Faculty of Pharmacy UiTM, were invited to share their valuable knowledge throughout the two days workshop.
The first day of the workshop covered the applications of one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques, NMR-based metabolomics, quantitative NMR (qNMR) spectroscopy, NMR of biomolecules, as well as roles of NMR in drug discovery and development. On day two, the workshop continued with lectures on practical aspects of one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques and structure elucidation of small molecules, followed by a hands-on session using NMR software (Topspin/Mnova). This workshop was attended by 16 participants from Faculty of Pharmacy, UiTM and UiTM Pahang Malaysia.
