In conjunction with the World Pharmacists Day that is celebrated every 25th September every year, our committee named as Sekretariat Mahasiswa Fakulti Farmasi (SMF) of UiTM Puncak Alam had conducted a program that lasted about a week, and hence known as World Pharmacy Week 2021. This program was conducted on 21-24 September 2021 with the official theme of World Pharmacist Day 2021, ‘Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health’. The objectives of the programme include to spread awareness to all the participants regarding the role and responsibilities of a pharmacist especially in this pandemic era as well as exposing the participants on the importance of consuming and keeping medicines in a right way. It is conducted fully online and consisted of several main activities. The activities listed are Medication Safety Campaign: Know Your Medicine, Forum: Pharmacist Role During and Post COVID-19, and Webinar: Halal Pharmaceutical in Malaysia and Way Forward.
For the first activity, Medication Safety Campaign: Know Your Medicine, was conducted throughout the program upon the distribution of infographics, carefully designed and proof checked by committee members that contains all necessary information on the right way of consuming and keeping medicines. The infographics were uploaded on social media platform by associated committee members with a hashtag #KnowYourMedicine, #UiTM and #WorldPharmacyWeek2021 to ease findings.
The next activity known as Forum: Pharmacist Role During and Post COVID-19 was held on 22nd September 2021 and was joined by three panels with different background and experience in pharmacy field, one moderator and about 300 audiences online on a Webex platform. During the program, the panels which are Encik Rahman bin Baco, Director of Pharmacap Group Sdn Bhd and Founder of Jardin Pharma, Prof Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman, a lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Encik Mohd Shahiri bin Abd Ghapar , Vice Director of Medicines Uses and Strengthening Section at Pharmacy Practice & Development, all shared their experiences and professional perspectives on their respective fields.
The following activity known as Webinar: Halal Pharmaceutical in Malaysia and Way Forward was conducted on 23rd September 2021 and focused on telling the procedures to get the halal status for pharmaceutical products that is available in the market. The webinar by Prof Madya Dr. Farahidah binti Mohamed, a lecturer of Advanced Drug Delivery Research Lab at Internation Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), touched several aspects on halal assignation on products ingredients and its trustability.
In a nutshell, the programme ended well and benefited about 300 students who were very keen in getting their knowledge glass filled up. It was a significant programme to both the participants and the committee members who worked behind the scenes as it gained both parties experiences and knowledges on same accord. Not to mention the immaculate guidances from our advisor for this programme, Dr Suraya Suratman who helped in monitoring our progress and processes throughout the programme.
