The annual celebration of World Pharmacy Week 2022 has finally come to an end. This programme was jointly organised by the Sekretariat Mahasiswa Fakulti Farmasi (SMF) and Society of Pharmacy Students (SOPHYS) in conjunction with the World Pharmacists Day that is being celebrated every year on the 25th of September. Unlike the previous year, the programme this time was physically held beginning on October 22, 2022 and ended on October 30, 2022. With the theme "Pharmacy united in action for a healthier world," this programme aimed for students to gain knowledge in the field of pharmacy and make an impact on the society around them, either directly or indirectly, in order to raise public awareness about drug safety issues, the role of pharmacists in the veterinary field, and address issues regarding the halal status of pharmaceutical products on the market. Many exciting activities have been carried out throughout the programme which includes a forum on “Veterinary Pharmacies: Animals are Patients Too”, a sharing session “Pharmacist by Profession, Content Creator by Passion”, RX Quiz, Pharma Got Talent and World Pharmacy Day. The Pharmashare activities were conducted throughout the programme with quizzes and fun facts uploaded on social media platforms by associated committee members. The quiz was set to be uploaded at 3 pm every day until the end of the program.
The World Pharmacy Week 2022 kicked off with a sharing session “Pharmacist by Profession, Content Creator by Passion” that was held in the morning of October 22, 2022, and was joined by approximately 300 participants from the Faculty of Pharmacy. The invited speaker, Pn. Najwa Syahirah Safian, a pharmacist from Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar Seremban, is a sensational content creator on TikTok who shares knowledge with the public regarding the pharmacy field. The session was being held online through Webex and succeeded in attracting the interest of the students to improve their creativity in other areas, such as content creation.
The first day of World Pharmacy Week 2022 continued with the forum “Veterinary Pharmacies: Animals are Patients Too" aimed at providing knowledge and awareness about the role of pharmacists in the veterinary field. The forum was held online through the Webex platform and presented by several panellists with expertise in veterinary pharmacies, including Dr. Salehatul Khuzaimah Mohamad Ali from Serv-U Veterinary Care and Mr. Rob Morris from the United Kingdom.
The following day begins with the first round of RX Quiz. RX Quiz is a quiz competition between the students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, with grand prizes worth RM200, RM150 and RM100. The second round of the programme was conducted on the same day, while the final round was scheduled for October 29, 2022. The first and second rounds of this competition were held at the student activity room of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the final round was held in the DK200 hall.
On the night of October 23, 2022, the program resumed with "Pharma Got Talent", a program highlighting the talents of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy. The programme was
conducted at DK200. Each of the three grand prize winners receives cash payments of RM 200, RM 150, and RM 100. The night was set with a theme of pyjamas and sleep attire, and six participants with a variety of performances were among those who had taken part in competing. The main goal of this programme was to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and interests while temporarily forgetting academic pressure and stress from endless studies.
Finally, the much-awaited event for the programme, which was the World Pharmacists Day took place on October 30, 2022. This event was a collaboration between the SMF Farmasi, SOPHYs, Al-Sultan Abdullah UiTM Hospital and the Kuala Selangor District Health Office involving the Faculty of Pharmacy students, UiTM Puncak Alam students, UiTM Puncak Alam residents and the local community. The program, which took place at the Eco Grandeur hall, began with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of health care and fitness for everyone, as well as providing participants with the opportunity to receive a free health check-up and consultation. Many exciting and informative booths, such as the Know Your Medicine booth, the Pharmazania booth, the health screening booth, and even lucky draw events with exciting prizes, were set up throughout the hall.
To sum up, the World Pharmacy Week 2022 was a huge success and has benefited those who have participated. The whole programme has achieved each objective that has been set for it.
