This year, the Society of Pharmacy Students (SOPHYS) and Sekretariat Mahasiswa Fakulti (SMF) Faculty of Pharmacy of UiTM Puncak Alam have conducted a programme known as Program Science Care Pusat Sains Negara-Universiti Teknologi Mara (PSN-UiTM). This programme is a collaboration programme between the Faculty of Pharmacy, Integrative Pharmacogenomics Institute (iPROMISE), and Pusat Sains Negara which involves the participation of 70 students from primary and secondary schools nearby UiTM Puncak Alam as well as volunteers among students of Faculty of Pharmacy. The programme aimed to encourage the students’ interest in science and also cultivate the spirit of volunteerism among the UiTM students.
There are two activities involved in this program which include a visit to the National Science Centre on 21 May 2022 and Science-2U on 28 May 2022. On the 21st of May, the participantsand facilitators which consist of students from the Faculty of Pharmacy went to the venue at Bukit Kiara. This visit is managed by the representatives of National Science Centre. They have provided a variety of activities such as doing experiments, visiting the workshop, and also visiting their galleries.
On 28 May 2022, the Science-2U program was conducted at Faculty of Pharmacy of UiTM Puncak Alam. The activities were divided into two sessions, where the morning session was the visit to laboratories at the FF3 block, and in the afternoon session, the participants were involved with Program SULAM: MediFun. During the visits to the laboratories, the participants were given the opportunity to conduct a variety of experiments at different stations in the group. For the Program SULAM: MediFun session, they learned some general knowledge about medicines by means of an exploration race.
To summarize, the programme ended well and has achieved the objective, where the number of students interested in science increased after the programme according to the data of the survey. It was a significant programme because the Science Care (PSN-UiTM) programme is related to volunteerism and helps in promoting science to the students, as well as UiTM itself.
