The month of Ramadan is a special month for the Muslim community, where they fast throughout the month, perform additional night prayers and recite the Quran more frequently to strengthen their relationship with Allah S.W.T. The Faculty of Pharmacy Student Secretariat (SMF) 2022/2023 and Society of Pharmacy Students (SOPHYS) 2022/2023 organised various activities to assist students preparing mentally, spiritually, and practically for the blessed mon
Activities conducted included Tadarus Al-Quran, Ramadan Quiz, Short Tazkirah, 1 Day 1 Hadith, Khatam Al-Quran and Iftar Jamaie, which were held from 22nd March until 13th April 2023. The programme was coordinated by the SOPHYS’s Islamic Affairs Bureau and Charity and Welfare Bureau and SMF’s Islamic Affairs, Welfare, and Human Development Bureau.
The Short Tazkirah took place from 21st March until 1st April of 2023. This activity required the participants to make a less than 3 minutes tazkirah video. Participants were given the freedom to choose their tazkirah topic, but it must be related to Ramadan. The criteria for the winners were good presentation skills, accurate and authentic content, and creative and interesting videos. Amir Firas bin Zaini from Rx20 was awarded as the first place winner for the short tazkirah competition, followed by Ahmad Afif bin Mohd Sari and Muhammad Nabil Husaini bin Che Rusli from Rx20 as second and third place winners respectively.
The Tadarus Al-Quran was held from the 1st Ramadan (23rd March 2023) until 12th April 2023. This programme was organised as part of UiTM Selangor Khatam Al-Quran ceremony and it was carried out at participants’ respective places. Following daily updates on Quran recitation from 1st Ramadan, participants who successfully completed their reading received a certificate of participation at the end of the programme. The Ramadan Quiz took place on 5th April 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
During the first round students were tested on 30 easy-level questions via Kahoot. All participants then proceeded to the second round of the quiz in which they had to answer 20 medium-level questions. Finally, the top 15 competitors moved on to the final round where they are required to solve 15 hard-level crossword questions. The winner of the Ramadan quiz was Nur Fatihah Khairunisah binti Abdul Fatah from Rx18. First runner-up was Abdullah Haniff bin Abdul Halim from Rx20, and the second runner-up was Amir Firas bin Zaini from Rx20.
The next activity, "1 Day 1 Hadith", is an initiative to spread the words and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during the month of Ramadan. Through this initiative, a hadith is shared each day on the Faculty of Pharmacy, SOPHYS and SMF’s Instagram story from 1st Ramadan until the end of the month. The hadiths were also posted on notice boards in front of the lecture halls and shared via Whatsapp groups. The highlight of the Ramadan programme was the Iftar Jamaie held on 13th April 2023. Sponsored by the Islamic Affairs Unit, UiTM, Puncak Alam Campus, the event was attended by approximately 400 participants, including students and lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy. The event was also attended by non-Muslim participants, to celebrate the experience, blessings and joy of Ramadan as well as uplifting the spirit of diverse and harmonious Malaysia.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Professor Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Abdul Majeed, presided over the closing ceremony of the programme followed by a group photo session and recitation of Doa Rabitah. In summary, the month-long Ramadan Al-Mubarak program provided a valuable platform for the muslim students to deepen their understanding and practice of their faith. Through a range of activities including Tadarus Al-Quran, Ramadan Quiz, Short Tazkirah, 1 Day 1 Hadith, and Khatam Al-Quran and Iftar Jamaie, the program was able to engage a wide range of participants and create a meaningful experience for all.
