Main research activities:

Pharmaceutical Technology Instrumentation laboratory offers services for in vitro diffusion chamber analysis and spray drying technology. The in vitro diffusion chamber can be used to study the in vitro drug transport across the intestinal layer, either through the jejunum, ileum or colon segment. A bi-directional permeability can be determined either through apical to basolateral direction as well as the basolateral to apical direction.

Besides, the Transepithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) apparatus attached to this apparatus could measure the integrity of the intestinal membrane and determine the transport mechanism across the intestinal linings either through the transcellular or paracellular pathway. This study predicts the outcomes of the in vivo data.

To produce dry spherical powder particles, we also have a mini spray dryer with a wide range of applications. This technique has successfully processed materials in areas such as pharmaceuticals, food and beverages

Mini Spray Dryer


producing a dry powder from a liquid or slurry by rapidly drying with a hot gas. This is the preferred method of drying of many thermally-sensitive materials such as foods and pharmaceuticals. A consistent particle size distribution is a reason for spray drying some industrial products such as catalysts. Air is the heated drying medium; however, if the liquid is a flammable solvent such as ethanol or the product is oxygen-sensitive then nitrogen is used.
