The niche of CDDR group focuses on the consumption of functional foods (i.e. probiotics) to prevent metabolic disorders and promote successful aging. This is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 which promises to ensure food security and nutrition within sustainable food systems. This research emphasis is timely as the global potential for functional foods is significant and growing because of increasing health consciousness and the self-care trends associated with aging, knowledgeable and wealthier consumers. To date, Malaysia remains a profitable import market for products that have verified health benefits because of the lack of established domestic production options. This raises the need for intensified research and development of local functional food. |
